Microsoft continues to enhance its Copilot AI offering, unveiling a series of game-changing updates with the release of Copilot Wave 2.

Focused on deepening integration with Microsoft 365 apps, boosting productivity, and improving collaboration, these updates deliver powerful tools that leverage AI for business and personal use. Let's explore the major upgrades that will be rolling out in the coming weeks.

Copilot Pages: A New Collaboration Hub for the AI Era

The introduction of Copilot Pages is set to revolutionise the way teams collaborate, providing a dynamic platform where AI-generated insights evolve into shareable, persistent documents.

This feature, which forms part of Microsoft 365 Copilot’s expanding ecosystem, enhances collaboration through what is being dubbed "multiplayer AI." In this new paradigm, insights derived from web data, business data, and work data can be effortlessly added to Copilot Pages, offering teams the ability to work together in real time, iterating on content as if Copilot were an additional member of the team.

Copilot Pages isn’t just another workspace. It transforms how businesses interact with AI by creating a permanent canvas where AI-powered insights, human creativity, and business data converge. Instead of fleeting, ephemeral results from AI queries, Pages allows those insights to be captured, edited, and repurposed across various tasks—be it drafting reports, analysing project data, or developing strategies.

This persistent, editable environment fosters an entirely new way of working, where team members can collaborate live, see contributions as they happen, and engage with BizChat (Business Chat) as a central hub.

With BizChat acting as a bridge to all your organisational knowledge, Copilot Pages becomes a space where the power of AI and human collaboration unite, turning every page into a living, reusable business asset. This not only makes workflows more seamless but also empowers teams to create actionable insights that can be shared and refined without losing context. Expanding Copilot in Microsoft 365 Apps

Microsoft is further refining Copilot's functionality across its core applications, starting with Excel. Users can now enjoy the general availability of Copilot in Excel, which supports advanced functions like data visualisation, formula generation, and conditional formatting.

In PowerPoint, Narrative Builder is now generally available. This tool generates a presentation outline based on a user-provided topic, helping users draft presentations faster.

Copilot in Teams has also been enhanced, synthesising meeting content and chat messages to offer a comprehensive meeting summary, ensuring you’re always up to date.

Outlook sees new upgrades as well, with the "Prioritise my inbox" feature set to launch later this year. This feature allows Copilot to flag important emails, provide summaries, and analyse them for relevance based on user-set priorities, helping you stay focused on what truly matters.

Copilot in SharePoint and OneDrive: Enhancing Knowledge Management

SharePoint and OneDrive are now more deeply integrated with Copilot, ushering in a new level of AI-driven collaboration and document management.

In SharePoint, Copilot agents are set to roll out in public preview by October, allowing users to create AI agents tailored to their specific needs without coding. These agents can summarise documents, answer questions, and provide insights based on the organisational content stored in SharePoint. This is ideal for teams that need quick access to accurate information and want to enhance knowledge sharing across departments.

Additionally, Copilot in SharePoint can now help site creators build visually stunning pages and sites using natural language prompts. Simply describe the site or page you need, and Copilot will handle the rest, speeding up the content creation process and ensuring it aligns with your vision.

In OneDrive, Copilot delivers three key features to streamline file management:

  1. Summarise Files: Quickly get a summary of multiple documents without needing to open each one.
  2. Compare Documents: Select up to five files and let Copilot highlight the key differences between them, regardless of format.
  3. Answer Specific Content Queries: Ask Copilot direct questions about your files, and get instant answers to help move projects along.

Copilot Agents: Automating Workflows

The introduction of Copilot agents is one of the most exciting features of Wave 2. These AI agents can perform tasks autonomously or with user guidance, offering personalised assistance based on specific business needs. With Copilot Studio, users can easily build agents using BizChat or SharePoint, summoning them within Microsoft 365 apps as easily as tagging a teammate.

These agents are versatile and capable of handling tasks like answering FAQs, analysing data, or providing real-time suggestions during customer interactions.

SharePoint's Copilot agents will be available to public preview users in October, and Microsoft promises continued improvements and broader availability soon after. These agents work securely within the Microsoft 365 framework, ensuring compliance with organisational security policies and offering a seamless way to scale AI-driven productivity across the enterprise.

Upgrading Copilot’s Core Intelligence

Lastly, Microsoft confirmed that Copilot now runs on GPT-4, significantly boosting its performance. This upgrade ensures responses are faster and more accurate, with Microsoft committing to integrating the most advanced AI models available, including OpenAI's newly announced o1 model, which brings even better reasoning capabilities to the AI assistant.
